Merits: Guardian Angel, Puppy Magnetism, Higher Purpose

Flaws: Child, Short, Strangeness, Primal Marks

Notes on Merits and Flaws:
Primal Marks: Beth's avatar appears to her as an angel. Beth herself looks startlingly angelic to most people, and is often called "Angel" by individuals meeting her for the first time. She also appears to have picked up an agenda from her avatar, as can be seen from her higher purpose (see below).
Guardian Angel: The true nature of this force is, of course, unknown to Beth, but it is probably involved in some way with her avatar and its quest.
Puppy Magnetism: Beth appears very pure, innocent and radiant to most people, and unwary individuals (particularly of her own age) tend to be very easily infatuated by her. Of course, she has no Seduction ability and virtually no Subterfuge, but she nevertheless has quite an impact on young males. (Think of the effect that the Little Red-headed Girl has on Charlie Brown.) The effects of this Merit may be muted now, but they will be much stronger when she becomes a teen-ager. Even now, adults tend to regard her as being above suspicion and accordingly give her a great deal a freedom from the rules that apply to other kids.
Higher Purpose: Beth's higher purpose is a theological one. She intends to prove God's existance in the World of Darkness. Failing that, she intends to prove that this universe (if it is indeed Godless) does not truly exist. With this goal in mind, Beth tends to study anything discussing the nature of God and the soul as well as anything suggesting the known universe is actually an illusion, a horizon realm or a dream.

Note on Spheres:
Beth does not require foci for the Spheres of Correspondence and Mind.

Character Description and Background:
Beth Rowan is a radiant blond, blue-eyed 12 year-old member of the Celestial Chorus. Beth has been an orphan from the age of three, when her father Michael Rowan disappeared in a paradox backlash and was never seen again. Her mother Corinne died in childbirth. Since her father's involuntary departure, Beth has been raised by her uncle Tim Wayland who ultimately helped her to fulfill her ambition to join his Tradition, the Celestial Chorus.

The young disciple has been disappointed, however, in the lack of faith she finds so prevalent in the Chorus. Beth believes in a literal God of some kind, although she is not particular about whether he has to reflect the description of any individual sect or religion. Most Choristers, unfortunately, see their Deity as merely the influence of Prime, and believe it to be shattered into an infinite number of pieces scattered throughout Creation.

Beth rejects this pantheistic view, feeling that it is rather ironic that the possessors of such transcendant power believe in such a finite God. Her working theory regarding Prime is that Quintessance is the everflowing grace of the Holy Spirit, or else the very substance sustaining the universe's illusion of reality. Beth intends to either prove the existance of God, or else prove the non-existance of any universe that can endure without him. Her feeling is that the universe must have a worthy Creator unless it is in some way deficient.

This ambitious student is assisted by her prodigal mental abilities and the inspiration of her Dream background. Beth is undoubtedly a gifted child, but she has a few flaws. She has developed a limited Manipulation attribute because of her tendency to listen to others rather than talk to them. Her Wits are limited because of the girl's habit of dreamily watching and contemplating her environment rather than responding to it. Beth's eyes sometimes look vague and unfocused for this latter reason, and also because of a coincidental side effect of her Correspondence magick.

Beth's uncle is fairly wealthy and they are presently residing in one of his homes in Southern California, in one of the most properous suburbs of Los Angeles.

Beth appears as an incredibly beautiful, wide-eyed and innocent blond girl. She has a sense of style and hence her clothing tends to be rather eye catching, except when she would rather not be seen. She has a large collection of T-shirts made of unusual fabrics and sporting uncommon quotes. For example,

Split the atom's heart, and lo!
Within it thou wilt find a sun.

which is a quote from a very old Persian mystic poem. These quotes often seem to have some kind of coincidental meaning to certain of the people who know her, especially mages and other supernaturals. The example above might show up when one of her allies was about to meddle with nuclear technology, probe the nature of the physical universe or study some tiny clues to a problem in his life. Beth tends to take this in stride, being inured to odd synchronicities due to her Strangeness flaw.

Note on Demeanors:
Beth has two different demeanors for two different parts of her life. Her Jester demeanor is the wry, sardonic side that her schoolfriends tend to see the most of, and her Architect demeanor is the serious aspect of her personality that comes out when she is dealing with adults, particularly other mages.

Tim Wayland:
Tim has light brown hair, pale green eyes and a peaceful air about him. He is not a very powerful member of the Chorus, but he is one of the busier ones. He has raised Beth fairly well, but he has been increasingly less available the last few months as his responsibilities in the Tradition pull him away from home life. His wife, Ann, is a competent Acolyte, and the heart of the Wayland household. She has dark hair, green eyes and a dry wit. Ann is only partially resigned to Beth's increasing independence, and is an important emotional comfort to the girl, even if the woman is otherwise a negligible resource.
